About Me

by Eman Sadiq

Hello reader! I'm Eman, a sophomore at Stuyvesant High School, and welcome to my personal webpage! Here you'll get a preliminary introduction of my interests, hobbies, pet peeves, and various other (somewhat strange) details. Enjoy!

Some of my hobbies and pastimes...

🎲 Board Games: Fun, fun, fun! 🎲

Okay, so one of my favorite hobbies is playing ✨board games✨! More specifically, I love playing:
  • (this is kind of an older game, but it's a lot of fun)
  • (although I've only ever finished one game...)
  • (even though I'm not great at it, it's still really enjoyable)
  • (I guess this is actually a card game, but it's definitely my favorite non-video game to play in my free time)
(You can click on the names of the games above for a short synopsis if you want more information!)
My favorite Monopoly pieces (or characters, whatever you want to call them) are the ship/boat, hat, and shoe...

And here are all the career cards you can choose from in the Game of Life, in case you were unfamiliar with the game...

📒 Reading and Writing: My First True Loves 📒

I guess my favorite pastime is reading different books, and sometimes short stories and poems, that are recommended to me by friends or siblings. 📖 Oftentimes there isn't any strict pattern to my reading, meaning that sometimes I'll read a play and other instances I'll be fine with a mystery novel. In any case, I love reading strong writing (but perhaps my own writing isn't as strong as I want); from this follows my other favorite pastime: writing ✍! I've actually stopped writing as much as I used to (because of school and all), but every now and then I'll take a break to pen down anything that comes into my head (lately this has just become an outlet for my frustration).

I should probably mention that I enjoy reading other people's writing as much as I like writing myself, and I also like giving feedback and ✨ constructive criticism ✨! In other words, I think peer editing is fun. 📝(So if you don't already think I'm boring, this should be enough to convince you.)

Anyway, since I've been talking about books, it would be mean of me not to recommend any books for those who're interested, right? So, here are some book recommendations!!! (You can click on the titles for a very brief summary.)

(Some people this book is boring, but I personally loved it...)

(This book is especially fascinating if you're into sci-fi stuff.)

(A rather disturbing but still a very powerful book.)

🎨 Doodling: Basically Random Scribbles 🎨

This is a more recent hobby of mine, and perhaps more of a mechanism that I use for stress relief. Doodling is still something I find really enjoyable, especially because I use it as an escape from the hustle of everyday life. However, my doodles are usually pretty random, and to give an idea of my doodling abilities, here are some of the basic things I like to draw:
  • Geometric shapes, usually in the form of squares ◼, circles ⚫, triangles ▲, or some weird combination of the three
  • Plants 🌿 and flowers 🌺, especially the latter (and leaves 🍃 too, though that's just a component of plants/flowers)
  • Eyes 👁 (okay, I know this sounds creepy, but it's become a favorite of mine)
  • And other random scribbles, squiggles, and swirls... 🌀
Here are some (perhaps not-so-random) doodles I found in my geometry notebook from last year (cropped and sized for effect)...

🎮 Minecraft! 🎮

I think this deserves its own section, because it's probably the first video game I ever played, and the one that's closest to my heart. And yes, Minecraft really is my favorite video game, and in 8 years, that hasn't changed at all. Sure, I started with just playing simple creative worlds and focused on making crazy-looking houses, but then I began playing more "competitively," meaning that I did more actual survival and hardcore gameplay with actual hostile mobs and stuff. Generally speaking, I haven't been able to play as much in the past few months, but I definitely play Minecraft when I have the chance.

We've talked enough about hobbies now, so I'll move on to some of my other interests...

🧬 Anything Genetics-Related 🧬

One of the topics that my biology teacher covered last year was genetics, and it was this subject matter that became my favorite part of science class. I guess the specific idea that peaked my interest the most was DNA-related mutations and, more specifically, diseases that arise because of these DNA mutations. Building off that, the kinds of diseases and disorders that interest me the most are tumor-related ones, like certain types of cancer (the main kind I can think of is breast cancer, which is also something that really fascinated me). Anyway, if DNA stuff sounds as cool to you as it does to me, then you should check out this cool (albeit very detailed) article about DNA history, structure, base pairings, and more. It is a decade old, so you can probably find newer articles, but it does have some amazing diagrams to its credit.

Three- and four-stranded DNA formations! (Sorry, but this image is really cool so I had to put it in...)

⭐Learning (and Speaking) Spanish ⭐

I've been taking Spanish as a class since middle school, and so the necessity to learn more Spanish started out as something I felt obliged to do, because I wanted to do well in school (which is probably relatable to any other Stuy student). The more I learned though, the more fun I found Spanish to be, and soon I viewed learning and speaking Spanish less of a chore and more of an insightful experience. From here I did a ton of Duolingo outside of school, and got better at the language with the help of outside material; but when quarantine began I found myself losing motivation to do, well, anything, so I took a short hiatus from my Spanish-learning adventure. Lately I've started up with practicing extra Spanish again, and I definitely find it one of the things that has interested me for several years now.

Now for... PET PEEVES!!! (and other things that really, really annoy me...)

This is supposed to be a fun section, so here's a ✨ FUN ✨ list of my biggest pet peeves...
  • I don't know if this counts, but I HATE it when people don't wash (or sanitize) their hands before eating. (This has been a peeve from pre-Covid times, too, by the way.) Like, it only takes a minute or two, right?
  • Also, I've heard that some people don't wash their hands after doing their business in the bathroom (and I was shocked, honestly, but supposedly it's true); again, why wouldn't you? Sorry if I'm writing some potentially offensive stuff, but these are definitely my biggest pet peeves, by far.
  • Sometimes my younger brother doesn't finish all the food on his plate during lunch/dinner, and then he throws it out, after which he doesn't even wash his own dishes. I absolutely hate it when people throw out their food in the trash, because that's simply wasteful. And following from that, it's annoying when someone doesn't clean up after themselves, because that means the person after you has to clean up for you, right? (I mean, I guess they don't have to, but still...)
  • I pretty much touched upon this in my last point, but it's maddening to see people litter and leave a mess behind. And now it's obvious that I'm kind of a clean freak (sometimes).

Some other fun (and kind of random) facts about me! (Yay!)

  • My favorite color is blue, which means that I love any and all shades of blue (especially pastel hues—but you can probably tell how much I love pastels just from the look of this webpage).
  • I really like chocolate of any and all varieties. 🍫 Actually, I'm fine with pretty much all candy (as long as it's not Reeses...).
  • Unpopular opinion, but I don't like peanut butter AT ALL (this is if you were wondering why Reeses and I don't click).
  • Maybe I should have mentioned this in the hobbies/pastimes section, but I really love sleeping 🛌 (I mean, I am kind of lazy).
  • I love stationery! And by that I'm mostly referring to pens and markers and stuff. 🖊
  • And lately I've also been obssessed with wearing hats, though my determination to continuously don a broad-brimmed hat at home annoys my parents to no end. 🎩
  • For some reason I'm so bad at chess ♟ that I can't even defeat my younger brother anymore...
  • I have an extreme fear of bugs 🪲 (and insects 🐜), sharp objects, and oil/butter (which is strange, considering the fact that I'm fine with pizza 🍕).
  • But my dream pet is a fish! 🐟 (More specifically a goldfish, but any fish is fine...)
  • I'm not at all athletic—which isn't an exaggeration, either, because I cannot play any kind of sport well, and the only physical activity I moderately enjoy is running. 🏃
  • I'm more of a night person, actually, so I work best later in the day (and also really, really early in the morning). 🌃
  • I especially despise lies, injustice, and misogyny (ranked in order of increasing hatred, I guess).

My collection of gel pens!

And here's the hat I always wear at home...

Yes, that ended on a kind of serious note, so now I'll refer anyone who's gotten this far to a super cool website that I find fascinating. (It's the U.S. debt clock, if you were wondering, and it's a lot of fun to explore because you can also check out debts in specific states, other countries, and even countries' energy outputs.)

Alright, if you've gotten up to here, congrats! You now know more about me than you'll ever need to, but you probably shouldn't mind, right? That's what you came here for, after all. Anyway, thanks a bunch for reading everything (unless you just scrolled right to the bottom, in which case I'd like to let you know how much cool stuff you've missed)! Best wishes from a clumsy, forgetful, and somewhat thickheaded individual!!!
