Hi!

My name is Joshua Wong. I think the best way to describe myself is what my friend said: a walking meme. I prefer being fun and happy rahter than serious, probably doing something really silly. I don't mean any harm, and I always have this little worm in the back of my head that keeps telling me I'm being rude or offish.

Eh.

Anyways I digress. I have a couple of hobbies that will be explained later. But for now, this section is about me!
Like I said earlier, I like to have fun, especially if it makes me or anyone else laugh. That's the important part. I live in Queens and yes it is a very long commute from school to home, but I know someone in Staten Island...which is just wow. I went to elementary and middle school as an ethnic minority (there was literally 15 students in the entirety of my middle school life that identified as Asian [i.e. Chinese, Korean, Japanese, etc] out of close to 300 students), so coming to Stuyvesant is a nice change of pace. And if both the background and font color is an indicator, I really like the color blue.

Anyways, I'm just rambling right now to make my website look more full ;D
Cheeky am I right?

Minecraft

I love Minecraft. I've always loved Minecraft. It was a major part of my childhood, both watching it on YouTube and playing POcket Edition on my mom's phone. It wasn't until I got my own computer that I finally got Minecraft Java Edition, a MAJOR upgrade from playing on an iPhone 6s.

I never really played Minecraft in survival mode. I actually played it more for the creative freedom. I can't tell you how many different game ideas I came up with, designed, built, and then abondoned over my, what? 7 years? Yeah, let's call it 7 years. 7 years of playing Minecraft on both the phone and computer.

Stories

Ah memories. I remember when I was 6 or 7, my dad would come up with a story on the spot for bed-time stories. Simpler times :).

I consider myself a storyteller. I have a half-decent ability to spin a story out of nowhere, which I attribute to my father's skill. I mainly use this ability to turn my random imaginations into something a little more tangible. You know how I said in the Minecraft section that I would create games and then abondon them later? Most of those "games" some from the stories I tell.

I have no idea why I'm putting this skill in a public website where I know people are going to see but it fulfills the requirement, no? Besides coming up with games for myself, the stories provide a suitable topic of conversation between me and my brother. It's not that we are distant or hostile to each other, it's just that he can be really annoying and usually a story either makes him more comfortable to be around or bores him to the point he leaves me alone.

I have tried to turn my stories into writing but they never had the same feeling, y'know? Being told a story and reading a book are two different things, at least in my opinion. Any attempt at writing usually collapse after maybe a week. Call it commitment issues, I don't know.

Go

Go is an ancient board game that came from China and is popular especially in the Far East. I have been playing for nearly 6 years (I think). It is technically a skill that I have but I am pretty mediocre at it. There is actually a Go club where I am a part of. Shameless promotion hehehehe.

Anyways, this board game made up a decent chunk of my middle school years. I found the game very fun and interesting, so I ended up going to these classes every weekend. I still go to those classes. The ranking system in go is from 30 kyu up to 1 kyu. After reaching 1 kyu, you have to win a certain number of successive ranking games to become 1 dan. After that, it goes from 1 dan to 10 dan. And if you want to go even further, you can enter the professional tournament. Each major country that plays go has a professional tournament set up. Each tournament is a little different, but if you are one of the very few that becomes pro, you start as a 1 dan professional, and can go up to a 9 dan professional.

Ranks aren't everything though. There were few dark horses in my time playing go. Shudders I digress. I am currently ranked 6 kyu, pretty avergae by all means. I have a friend in Brooklyn Tech that is a 2 dan and he is looking into becoming a pro after highschool. He's chill and fun to be around, but is really, really scary to go against.
