FamilyMy immediate family consists of four people, three of which I see on a daily basis. Petra VospernikMy mom is a clinical psychologist. She's originally from Vienna but came to the US in her 20s. She met my dad in law school. Harald HalbhuberMy dad is a research and corporate lawyer. He likes taking photos and is, according to himself, "generally awesome." He used to torture me with German grammar but now I have a class for that. Fred HalbhuberMy older brother is studying law in England, although during Covid he was mostly in New York. He still usually calls us every day, so that's nice. Arthur "Jamie" HalbhuberHis full name is Arthur James August Halbhuber, but we just call him "Jamie." He was born on January 1st, 2022. He's just a baby so he doesn't do stuff. Still cute though. |

HobbiesLegoBecause I'm secretly 10 years old, I still enjoy playing with the handful of Lego I still have. Its mostly Lego Star Wars minifigures; when my brother's at home he also usually plays with them. Star WarsStar Wars is pretty cool. I think I first got exposed to it with my older brother's Clone Wars lego, and then I started watching the Clone Wars TV show and then my dad had me watch the OG movies. These days, I usually get my Star Wars content through the shows like Clone Wars and The Mandalorian. I originally wanted to watch the Book of Boba Fett, but figured I should probably see the Mandalorian first. The show's pretty good. (Also the Family Guy parodies of the original trilogy are hilarious ) Rubik's cubesMaybe calling Rubik's cubes a hobby is a bit of an overstatement. I'm not one of those people who can scan a Rubik's cube and then solve it in 20 seconds. But I do sometimes solve them on the train when I'm bored. I only know the Beginner method and I my best record is like one minute. I might be a little faster if I used a speed cube though. ChessIt's weird that I enjoy playing Chess considering the fact that I'm so bad at it. No, seriously, my rating is like in the low 400s. But yeah, I guess you can call it a hobby. Chess VariantsTo entertain myself I sometimes read about Chess variants on Wikipedia. Some Chess variants are just made for when you're tired of the same 64-square board and the same rules every time, like Losing Chess or Atomic Chess . But other Chess variants are more complex. These kinds of variants include Capablanca Chess , which adds the Archbishop and the Chancellor as new pieces (invented by World Champion Jose Raul Capablanca), and three-dimensional Chess (which you may know if you're a fan of Star Trek or the Big Bang Theory). My favorite Chess variant, however, is infinite Chess , which is Chess played on a board that extends out infinitely in all directions. This leads to some interesting things, like one side being able to delay Checkmate by Ω2 (omega squared) moves. |

InterestsHistoryWhen I was younger, I was obsessed with the Crash Course history series (world and US). Like I would literally have John Green narrate to me about the Kievan Rus while playing with Lego. And I still enjoy an episode of Crash Course US history about the Gilded Age or something over a Saturday morning breakfast. The Natural SciencesAs I've gotten older, however, I've come to appreciate topics like biology and chemistry more. I'm currently in the Science Olympiad chemistry division, assigned to some Forensics and EnviroChem competitions. Forensics involves analysis of plastics, powders, fibers, blood and other evidence in order to find the culprit in an investigation. For this year's set of competitions, Environmental Chemistry involves some intense chemical-statistics math (which my partner handles because he's a really smart junior) and knowledge of water management protocol. | |
