Violin

Overview:

Violin, obviously, is a Western Instrument. It is comprised of wood and a bow (the stick). Violin is in the Strings section of an orchestra and it is the smallest and has the highest pitch compared to all other strings instruments. There are four strings on a violin; G, D, A, E, from the lowest and thickest to the highest and thinest. There are pegs on the top of the violin that is used for larger interval tuning. There are four fine tuners at the end of the violin for more precised intonation. The bow is used to play the strings on the violin and their friction creates sound. The bow hair, the white part, is made from horse tail. Violin prices can range from $20 dollars to as much as $1,000,000 or greater. You also need a rosin to be applied on the bow hair to make sound.

My Career in Violin

I played violin since 2nd to 3rd grade. I stopped for a few years in between due to educational reasons. Paino was actually my first instrument, but I changed to violin afterwards. I really like the sound of violin because it sounds very grand and elegant. I had private teacher for violin lessons and I also attend orchestras. The first orchestra I have went to was in 2nd grade in my elementary school. The second orchestra was in 3rd and 4th grade when I moved to Massachusetts. I was the concert master during that time. Then I moved on to middle school orchestra, where once again, I was the concert master. I was in my previous high school's Chamber Strings, the highest level of Orchestra, during Freshman year. I had the honor to sit behind the concert master to play for graduation ceremony. I also started All City High School Orchestra. However, I am not the concert master anymore. Good news is that I am still a first violinist. I am not in Stuyvesant's Orchestra during scheduling conflicts. I still continued my violin path in school through SING.

Here is an embarrassing video of me playing the violin. (It was a year ago, so please forgive me if it sounds bad :)

Certificates:

Of course during my journey in playing the violin, I needed to flex something off through exams and certificates. So lets start with the flex (Guys this is the only thing about me that I can flex on so forgive me) In 6th grade, I took a Grade 3 Exam for NYSSMA (Music State SchoolMusic Association). NYSSMA has the highest level up to 6th. In 7th grade, I took the Grade 5 Exam for NYSSMA. I earned full scores for both exams in NYSSMA. I was supposed to take the Grade 6 NYSSMA Exam during my 8th grade, however, the pandemic restricted that from happening. In 2021, I took the Grade 8 ABRSM (Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music) which is known in 93 countries. ABRSM has the highest level of 8 and 2 additional mastery grades. I took the ABRSM Grade 5 Music Theory Exam. For all of the ABRSM tests I took, I recieved a score of distinction for both.
