Five Underrated Pokémon Highlights
This is a list of the top five Pokémon that struck me as interesting and unique despite not having the same popularity as Pokémon like Charizard or Pikachu. I think these Pokémon deserve to be recognized and appreciated.
1. Magikarp
The most useless Pokémon. Or is it? An infamous cheese strategy that can sweep an entire team of legendaries is to equip Focus Sash on Magikarp and teach it Flail. Focus Sash will prevent Magikarp from being one-shotted on the first attack received, leaving it at 1 HP. Magikarp can then use Flail, which does much higher damage at low HP. Pair this with Belly Drum and Baton Pass to increase Magikarp's Attack stat, and Magikarp can KO almost any Pokémon in one shot.
2. Rattata
This Pokémon seems weak at first glance, but under specific circumstances it can defeat even the strongest Pokémon. Equip Focus Sash and learn the moves Endeavor and Quick Attack. Focus Sash prevents Rattata from being one-shotted, letting it use Endeavor to bring the opponent down to the same HP as Rattata (1 HP). Then Rattata can use Quick Attack the next turn with +1 priority. This cheese strategy won't work, though, if the enemy Pokémon inflicts status effects, has a move that hits multiple times in a row, or is slower than Rattata.
3. Tauros
Tauros is a good offensive Pokémon with high Speed stats. The STAB combo Body Slam and Hyper Beam can KO many other Gen 1 Pokémon. It also has moves like Earthquake, Fire Blast, and Blizzard learnt by TM that cover the weaknesses of its typing.
4. Poliwag
Poliwag is Red's first Pokémon in the Pokémon Adventures manga. Red caught Poliwag before he even met Pikachu. Poliwag is underrated because he saved Red from drowning in the manga by evolving into Poliwhirl and helping him.
