The Pokedex in Progress
By William Nevid, 10th Period Annual CS
Ah, pokemon, one of my most favoured game franchises of all time. My first pokemon (video) game, interestingly enough, was not an official pokemon game (excluding the tcg which came first). Rather, it was a fan game titled Unova RPG (named after the region of the gen 5 pokemon games) that made pokemon more of an mmorpg, with various rooms one could create to catch specific pokemon, as well as an indepth store, trading, and battling system that recreated many elements of pokemon (although not all, which allowed for abuse of certain features). The entire game was browser-based, and I distinctly recall the days in which I would go home and do my homework quickly but to continue playing Unova RPG (with my friends of course). My first true pokemon video gamee would be the gen 6 remake of gen 3 pokemon sapphire called Pokemon Alpha Sapphire. This game introduced me properly to many pokemon mechanics as well as strategies and methods, and I have had some interest in pokemon ever since. Moreso, I believe it had a greater impact in facilitating my interest in multiplayer rpgs with lots of specs to consider in each element, which couple with my interest in minecraft from the time as well as various shooters, formed my outlook on video games today.
