Ying's Birds

There are approximately 10,000 species of birds on the planet (I'm not sure about Mars). Besides pigeons and house sparrows, what else does this world have to offer? Welcome to my website that is dedicated to birds!

Why should everybirdy think that birds are cool?

  1. Most birds (haha, not penguins because penguins are dumb) can fly! So awesome!
  2. Birds are direct descendants of dinosaurs. Even YOU aren't a direct descendant of dinosaurs.
  3. The Peregrine falcon is the fastest animal, reaching up to speeds of 240 mph.
  4. Birds can't pee! ( im-peck-able fact) They just dump everything out of their cloacae!
  5. My puns are so good that they should be ill-eagle! You love birds because you love me!

Let's meet some splendid specimens!

Magnificent Frigatebird

Kakapo

Bobolink

The Magnificent Frigatebird is my favorite (no egrets)! Males have the red, balloon-like gular sac to attract mates. This seabird has a wingspan of seven feet and eats mostly fish. Lacking waterproof wings, Magnificent Frigatebirds skim the ocean surface for prey, but they also steal food from other birds (kleptoparasitism)!

The Kakapo is another large bird (the heaviest parrot)! It cannot fly nor is it very smart. In fact, it is also critically endangered with around 200 Kakapos left in the wild. However, Kakapos are very friendly, are strong climbers, and live very long! A-parrot-ly, the Kakapo can live up to 120 years old.

I hope all my puns aren't flying over your heads! The Bobolink is Rainie's favorite bird because of how the yellow head patch makes the Bobolink look like an old, bald guy (Mr. Brooks? sorry!) Bobolinks like to hang out around rice fields and tall grasslands. The Bobolink's species name refers to how it is "rice-eating"!
